4 biggest business goals for 2024

There’s no better time of year than January to put plans in place for your organisation. And whether you’re setting quarterly goals using a framework like Objectives and Key Results (OKR) or you’re focused on your long-term Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs), Town & City Gift Cards can help you to achieve them. Here’s how:

1. Recruiting staff

Our recent research found that 49% of employers are worried about attracting the right talent. Investing time in building and creatively sharing company culture on social platforms with ‘a day in the life’ and behind the scenes content can pay dividends when it comes to recruitment. You’ll already have an engaged following who are interested in your company. Creativity can come into your recruitment too. Fashion retailer ASOS used LinkedIn recently to create a ‘reverse-CV’ to encourage new recruits. Don’t forget to harness the power of your existing workforce to recruit staff, a technique used to great effect by East Lothian based ELCAP who rewarded their staff with a £50 Town & City Gift Card for referring a new employee.

2. Embracing ESG

There is a growing demand in 2024 for firms to demonstrate their commitment on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, showing how they consider and measure their firm’s impact on people, planet, place and prosperity. Fibre networks company Viberoptix used Town & City Gift Cards in its ESG strategy, giving pupils the challenge to use the firm’s waste materials to design a product they could use in their school. Winners were rewarded with the Mid Ulster Gift Card. Viberoptix will also use Town & City Gift Cards to reward staff, giving back to the community and enhancing their ESG strategy.

3. Driving growth

UK SMEs are anticipating an average 15% year on year revenue growth in 2024 with plans to invest £252bn. Effective means of driving growth includes identifying new target audiences and new markets, harnessing new technology and developing new products, even diversification. Growth with existing products in existing markets can often be achieved by looking to existing customers. BrawBand used Town & City Gift Cards to thank customers for referring a friend in place of the Amazon vouchers they used in the past. Customers received a coupon code to redeem online for the Town & City Gift Card of their choice.

4. Retaining staff

A study by esphr found that retaining staff is the biggest challenge for HR professionals in 2024. Key to keeping hold of your best people includes looking at all elements of working life for your staff, assessing what could be improved. This covers everything from salary to hybrid working practices, flexible working arrangements to training, workplace wellbeing and personal development. Ashton McGill did this exact exercise in 2023, putting in place Town & City Gift Cards as rewards through the year to support staff in the cost of living crisis and helping them to achieve wellness goals.
